I'm impressed, jealous, and sad all at the same time.

Impressed because that is some dedication. Somewhere online I read that cell phone novels are big in Japan.

Jealous because you found a way to write without your child grabbing your phone to play 'Dress Chicka' or the lightsaber game and you've escaped the intellectual black hole that is the Big Blue House.

Sad because when I write I am absorbed by it and hate to be interrupted in the middle of a good chain of thoughts. Which is why I have to step away from the computer to have time with my kiddos and step away from my kiddos to have good writing time. Is your child getting the short end of the deal when you can claim to be there with her, but you're not really "there"? Is your writing getting the short end of the deal when you can claim to be writing, but you're not really intellectually "there"? Are you doing each halfway, or only doing one fully?

(I am fully prepared to be called judgmental.)

I remember reading about a young mom who sat in a play tent w. her youngun and a lap top and wrote. Now you and your cell phone. My kids attacked anything that had my attention. I'm impressed.

Cell phone short story writing! Ack, all those little buttons? You, sir, are dedicated to the craft. Or at least squeaking the craft in between the cracks of your regular cheerio-ravaged existence. More power to you.

As an SAHM graduate student who's living almost exactly the same life you are--cheerios, raisins, and singing plastic cookie jars by day, reading and writing by night--I'm fascinated that you've made cell phone composition work.

Unfortunately, my daughter loves cell phones as much as she does laptop buttons, and in any case I can't see myself drafting my entire dissertation with my thumbs. But I find your experience encouraging nonetheless. I might graduate yet!
